To create an illustration to be used for an award show program cover.

I found some reference images of Huntington Beach which is where the award show was being held. I also found a reference image of an iconic Southern California beach vehicle. I then composed the two images and sketched out some of the elements to see how they meshed together. Once I felt the composition was good, I then began to create each element of the vehicle then the pier. I wanted it to be colorful so I decided to make the setting during sundown. I also didn’t want it to be more of an art piece rather than a replicated realistic image, so I made the surfaces very flat with minimal shading. Once I felt the illustration was complete, I added a border, text and a paper texture to match other materials that the award show had already created. The final image was used as a cover for an 8″ x 10″ cover for their show program.
